Who we are:

ING Bank NV is a global bank with a strong European base. Our more than 60,000 employees serve around 37 million customers, corporate clients and financial institutions in over 40 countries. Our purpose is to empower people to stay a step ahead in life and in business.

We have junior credit analyst (with 0-2 years’ experience) positions that offer an ideal opportunity to gain exposure to a new, strategically important, and high-profile team within ING Wholesale Banking. We are looking for fresh graduates and experienced credit professionals who have experience in monitoring loan covenants, financial spreading, risk rating and credit reviews. The aim is to help shape the future processes within lending support across the entire global ING Wholesale Banking network. The role would suit candidates that want to begin or expand a career in corporate lending and credit analysis.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred - if possible, in Business, Accounting, Finance or Economics but can be in another discipline coupled with strong knowledge of accounting.
  • Work experience should be in financial services involving corporate or institutional lending.
  • Solid understanding of the financial statements of companies.
  • We value resourcefulness, teamwork, and enthusiasm all of which might be demonstrated via your previous work experience or perhaps involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • High level of attention to detail coupled with strong organisational and scheduling skills are important.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills. You will be working with teams across multiple lines of business based in many different counties so strong communication skills are a must.

Main Responsibilities

  • Analysing financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement) of public and private companies and inputting the required data into various credit analysis systems.
  • Screening the loan agreements and understanding the financial covenants applicable to the borrower.
  • Preparation of various reports for lending teams across the globe for overdue ratings, covenants and financials – we want to be able to proactively help the lending teams resolve any issues before they may arise.
  • Conducting background research independently to understand the broad drivers that guide various sectors in which the borrowers operate with a view to performing a brief risk assessment, resulting in an appropriate risk rating.
  • You will develop credit, analytical and technical skills while gaining hands-on experience in your role.
  • You will work with engaged managers and have exposure to global teams across all areas of Wholesale Banking (e.g., corporate, real estate, and financial institutions etc).

My role as a graduate engineer gives me a wide range of things to do in my day-to-day. I have tasks for delivery where I am able to use my coding skills and critical thinking, and I can also choose to do initiative work where I can hone leadership, and creative thinking. My day-to-day varies, there are days that I only do delivery work or initiative work, and some days I can do a little bit of both. I also find it important to note that despite having a wide range of things to do on the daily, I do not work beyond office hours. I just find being able to choose to do different things more stimulating and fitting for my work ethic.

Since I'm a fresh graduate, I don't know much about Pega. As days and months passes, I learn more and apply some logic which I can use during my college days. I manage to finish my task or story in most of the time.

My day-to-day responsibilities are manageable. The people that I work with ensure that I can handle and manage all the tasks that they have assigned to me.

Pros and cons of working at ING Hubs Philippines

Pros

  • The best thing about working in my company is how we are given abundant opportunities to build individually and as a team in the specific department you are in. The liberty to just "do your thing"

  • I believe the best thing about working in ING HUBS PH is the opportunities for career growth. They offer a learning platform for us to utilize for upskilling and skill enhancement. Additionally, the management actively listens to their employees regarding their career aspirations. Furthermore, the company also offers extracurricular activities to promote work-life balance for their employees. Lastly, the company has a great working environment with positive values.

  • The work-life balance is great. People respect your time and you are able to rest whenever you need to. With such a great work environment, we are able to meet our targets while not sacrificing our personal time.

  • The training is the best thing for me both the instructor-led training and the self-paced training really gave me a lot of knowledge about my field even though I'm a fresh graduate. I have learned so much in the training and it had led me to passing my certification. Another thing would be the culture of the company, since I feel like everyone listens to each other and everyone is helping each other to succeed their goals.

  • Well-planned program that enables us to accelerate growth. Plenty of opportunities that allows us to work not just with nearby colleagues but also those from other locations of ING. We also had talks with senior management where they shared their experiences and answered our questions.

Cons

    • The worst thing about working in ING I would consider would be the traffic considering the manila rush hour, but the location negates this considering the public transportation available.

    • With my role, the major limitation can be the high responsibility of delivering a working application that is crucial to millions of users, which can be quite daunting and stressful. Additionally, the need for continuous growth and professional development to keep up with current technology advancements is demanding. Thus, there’s a need to stay a step ahead.

    • There are times when requests for installing software required for certain tasks take too much time. While this is understandable from a security and IT risk perspective, it may consume time that can be used for productive work.

    • The department I work with has a tendency to develop siloed, specialized knowledge, which is not great if you are leaning into leadership positions. Workload can be intense.

    • It's a personal thing, but as a fresh graduate I would've wanted to experience more in office interactions with my colleagues. We have a hybrid setup where we're only required to go four times in a month, and I think a lot of communication skills, and relationships that I could've learned and gained in this new work from home era may have been lost.
