Pega Resident Engineer at ING Hubs Philippines
BS Management Information Systems at Ateneo de Manila University
What's your job about?
As a Pega Resident Engineer, I am primarily involved in developing and building Pega applications according to business needs in my designated chapter. What I like about ING Hubs Philippines is that they want to drive digital banking globally, through a seamless customer banking experience. Currently, I am in my training phase of learning Pega - I am thankful for ING in giving me the best training as possible transitioning into my role. On the big picture, I work alongside a team on a daily basis and together we make sure that customers can do their thING.
What's your background?
I grew up in Albay and was always fascinated by technology. This started when I studied in Pisay-Bicol during high school and my continued my life as a scholar in Ateneo de Manila University, where I pursued BS Management Information Systems with a specialization in Data Science Analytics. Throughout my journey, I was able to capture a holistic view on tech – understanding the underlying complexities and connections it has with different systems and people.
Nearing graduation, I took the chance to look for a job opportunity and actively pursued this one from ING. It was challenging – juggling both my academics and job applications. But thankfully, I’m more than glad to be surrounded by an uplifting support system. Ultimately, they helped me land this role. Now, I’m more than glad to deliver value to the company, as part of Batch 5 in the Pega Residency Program.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes, definitely. I have career-shifting batchmates who came from different fields like Engineering and Education. And interestingly, they have proven that they have what it takes to get the job through their programming and problem-solving capabilities alongside a knack for continuous learning. In today’s dynamic landscape, these attributes are crucial for adapting to the evolving tech demands of this role. Not to mention, one also has to exemplify the Orange Code more specifically for ING.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
From my experience, the coolest part is seeing how my work could directly enhance banking services, making everyday financial activities smoother for customers. Alongside this, having work-life balance (mostly working from home) and collaborating with a vibrant (multi-talented, diverse and smart) community encourages me to explore and do my best.
What are the limitations of your job?
With my role, the major limitation can be the high responsibility of delivering a working application that is crucial to millions of users, which can be quite daunting and stressful. Additionally, the need for continuous growth and professional development to keep up with current technology advancements is demanding. Thus, there’s a need to stay a step ahead.
