What's your background?
I grew up in Taguig City and lived there my whole life. I started my career in Allegro MicroSystems as Production Operator after graduating from Pateros Technological College with a Degree in Computer Science. With 9-year experience as Production Operator, I asked myself, who I am going to be? How I plan to live my life every day, so I decided to step up my career. I tried to apply for a higher position, as Statistical Process Control Engineering Assistant (now called Quality Technician). I have no knowledge of Microsoft Excel, so I watched tutorials in Youtube that helps me to create and complete automated reports using VBA. It improves workflows and processes, helps streamline and automate repeatable tasks, minimizing room for errors and increasing overall efficiency. I worked until my weaknesses become my strengths and got promoted to Senior Quality Technician.
I’m willing to dig deep so I took a risk by accepting another position in a whole new Department. When I first begin my new job role as an Enterprise Data Management Specialist, I am a Computer Science graduate who doesn’t fit in with the Planning Team and has no knowledge in Planning. This however does not justify my lack of knowledge and there are benefits to being fresh. Everything is new to me, so I am that much more excited to learn everything. So in a way, the lessons I took away from this is to do your research and be able to adapt.
Today, I am learning to strike a healthy work-life balance to make sure I take time for myself and my family. My hobbies include badminton. I always like to challenge myself to improve at everything I do. I strongly believe that if I perform well at work and always strive to do my best, I will also be happy in my personal life.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Definitely. As long as you’re a self-motivator by the desire to do a good job at whatever position you’re in, want to excel and to be successful in your job both for your own personal satisfaction and for your employer. Make more of an impact than just doing your job and what skills that you develop will serve everything else that in the future. Also, there are likely other candidates who also have the ability to do the job, yet you must bring an additional quality that makes you the best person for the job, and that’s your passion for excellence.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
My job is fast-paced and structured to expand. And I enjoy working in an environment experiencing rapid growth. Having a boss that appreciates the work we do and always thanks us for the hard work. Sharing of ideas and thoughts to make something work effectively.
We have conference meeting rooms named after places like Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, Manila, and Cebu. And even you’re at the office, you don’t need to sacrifice wearing high heels.
Having the challenge to be part of the Perfect Attendance with zero unauthorized leaves and zero tardiness. And it’s a great satisfaction if you’re qualified.
And of course, I love our annual sports tournaments like badminton, volleyball, basketball, and bowling.
What are the limitations of your job?
Enterprise Data Management (EDM) team was originally based in the US and new to Allegro Philippines. A lot of things are something new to learn. You will need to explore and ask around for more information. And I think everyone has blind spots that’s why working as a team is very important to point out and cover each other’s blind spots and expect challenging tasks.
With everything is new, I like to make sure that my work is perfect, so I tend to perhaps spend a little too much time checking it. However, I've come to a good balance by setting up a system to ensure everything is done correctly the first time.
I used to think that there was one best solution to a problem, but I've learned that that kind of thinking limits the possibility of great success.
