Carlito Viacruses

Bachelor of Accountancy at National University Philippines

I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome of our audit managers. I appreciated the company’s culture and inclusiveness policies. We had the chance to meet some of the fantastic people working in audit in person, which is why the internship orientation stood out the most for me.

What's your background?

Carlito Viacruses is a fourth-year accountancy student at the National University (NU) Laguna. He shared with us how impressed he was with EY GDS’ culture as an intern for the Assurance Service Line, and how he felt his learnings would contribute to his future as an accounting professional.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

I was very anxious at first since I will be interning at a Big 4 organization. However, when we had the internship orientation, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome of our audit managers. I appreciated the company’s culture and inclusiveness policies. We had the chance to meet some of the fantastic people working in audit in person, which is why the internship orientation stood out the most for me.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

At first, I was anxious because working was very different from classroom work or even my internship experience in senior high school. Some of our lecturers told us that being an auditor can be a challenging job. But during the internship orientation at EY GDS, I was astounded, as our seniors were very candid, upbeat and even funny. They are approachable and so we were encouraged to ask questions. The best part was that we were guided in learning several procedures, despite some of them being complex.

Advice for yourself when you were a student...

I discovered that there is no such thing as a simple task. Every single task you do aids in the achievement of a greater goal. For example, you can think of a company’s financial side as its “beating heart,” so if it experiences a loss, the business could close if improper financial advice has been supplied. As a future professional in the industry, this is a lesson that stood out to me – the importance of every task and the importance of understanding stakeholders and making sure that we provide them with the best advice and solutions. EY GDS offered us chances to fully grasp and understand this significant responsibility, aiding our learning and development. As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect,” thus as interns, every session and simulation we had was very significant.
