About Bureau of Internal Revenue Philippines (BIR)

The Bureau of Internal Revenue is mandated by law to assess and collect all national internal revenue taxes, fees, and charges, and to enforce all forfeitures, penalties, and fines connected addition to that, including the execution of judgments in all cases, decided in its favor by the Court of Tax Appeals and the ordinary courts.

Your role and responsibilities

A Registrar maintains student records and course data, which can include helping students schedule or register for classes.

  • Enter detailed student data into computer systems
  • Train staff at the registrar’s office to use software related to records administration
  • Manage, process, and enter data from extensively detailed paperwork
  • Check-in students and families for appointments
  • Performing clerical tasks, such as printing academic transcripts for students

Training & development

The PTA served as a specialized learning institution for tax collectors and administrators of the government and selected applicants from the private sector. It handles training, continuing education programs, and other courses for the officials and personnel of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), the Bureau of Customs (BOC), and the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF).

It develops and implements a curriculum that is about:

  • (a) technical aspects of tax collection, administration, and compliance; and
  • (b) the career orientation and development for civil servants. It conducts lectures, seminars, workshops, and other training programs designed to mold, develop, and enhance tax collectors' and administrators' skills, knowledge, moral fitness, efficiency, and capability. It also performs such other functions and duties as may be necessary for carrying out its mandate.

Compensation & benefits

Incentives and rewards to government officials and employees of the year may take the form of any of the following, as may be determined by the Committee on Awards established under the Code:

(a) Bonuses; or
(b) Citations; or
(c) Directorships in government-owned or controlled corporations;
(d) Local and foreign scholarship grants; or
(e) Paid vacations;

Career progression

Every department, office, and agency shall, as soon as practicable and in no case later than ninety (90) days from the effectivity of these rules, start conducting value development programs for its officials and employees to strengthen their commitment to public service and help promote the primacy of public interest over personal interest in the performance of their duties.

Continuing refresher courses and seminars and workshops to promote a high standard of ethics in public service shall be conducted.

Work-life balance

Previous trainees described the BIR’s workplace as productive with friendly colleagues. Most insiders believe that fresh grads can handle the workload contributing to a healthy work-life balance.

The work schedule is another factor for striking a good balance between a person’s work and personal life. Government employees usually work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Company culture

The legacy of the Bureau is, in many ways, the work of successive generations of revenuers who have made the selfless decision to dedicate their talents and skills to the service of the country. As such, the BIR Chronicles will, in time, progress to reflect the accomplishments of the men and women who will follow in their footsteps on the continuing journey of public service
